CHAD MALONE

DESIGNER / ILLUSTRATOR / CARTOONIST

About Me

I graduated from Austin Peay University in May 2013 with a BFA in Visual Communications/Graphic Design. Currently, my role as Senior Graphic Designer for FilterMart /FilterFab requires me to photograph and visually represent the ever changing inventory of both companies through various printed media and web. I am also fortunate enough to rebrand the corporate identity of both companies and provide graphics for an unrelated startup company named Hillbilly Classic Restorations.

Previously, I was employed at The Clever Factory in Nashville, Tennessee as a Graphic Designer for their activities department. While there I was responsible for creating various toys, games, products, and packaging for both children and adults that are mostly either holiday themed or for everyday use. After graduation, I worked at Identity Group, LLC in Cookeville Tennessee as a Graphic Designer and Production Artist until the fall of 2014. While there, I was responsible for creating hospital signage including ADA compliant directional and wayfinding signage. During the Fall of 2012 I was an intern at MediaWorks, a design firm in Clarksville, Tennessee. My major responsibilities included pre-press production and business card design. I also produced T-shirt and package designs for MediaWorks.

I love design and enjoy incorporating my illustration into my design work any chance that I get. I have a quite a few years of experience with comics and comic design. Fall 2012 marked the launch of my comic strip for the APSU newpaper, The Allstate. The strip's title is "Socially Unacceptable" and is an ongoing webcomic that can be found on the "comics" tab of this website.

Philosophy

As a designer, I find fulfillment in implementing illustration into my designs whenever possible. I believe this sets me apart from most designers who are not illustrators themselves. In my current position, I enjoy the sense of creativity for which my company strives. My employers rely on my strong interest in logo design and development, as well as my useful knack for maintaining an attractive and cohesive scope.

Project Highlights

My major success of which I am very proud of is winning a contest to design the DVD box set cover for the 4th Season of Arrested Development for 20th Century Fox Entertainment, released in stores 12/16/14. This was coincidentally an expansion of a project I chose to create for my undergrad Senior Show that focused on fictional cola flavors based around characters from Arrested Development. Ongoing projects of mine focus on T-shirt designs that pay homage to pop culture and retro culture.
